residents outside for senior recess

Cedarwood at Sandy, a Kisco Senior Living Community, is getting seniors outside for some good old-fashioned "recess," as they continue to practice social distancing. Twice a day, residents  are invited to safely get outside in the communities' courtyard for what's become known as "recess."

In addition to getting their steps, residents get to enjoy the fresh air and see one another while staying six plus feet away! Associates have also come up with some fun activities that have been big hits like group hangman games, hula hoop contests and more. Residents are also able to play tic-tac-toe through the windows with some local kids from the neighborhood.

While inside or outside the community, residents and associates are wearing masks. The community has provided everyone with a re-useable mask, and it's also been amazing to see family members of residents increasing their supply, donating masks for their loved ones and also thinking of the associates.

“While the community is practicing safe social distancing, it doesn't mean residents need to feel confided to their apartments,” says Jesse Buntjer, executive director of Cedarwood at Sandy. “COVID-19 has caused us to make adjustments to life in the community, and it is our job to make sure that it’s still a life full of safety, comfort, and happiness. The idea of recess has been really fun to see in action, and I love that we're making the most of our community's space."
