Island Cat

Cabo San Lucas has become one of the fastest growing vacation spots in Mexico since the small fishing town gained popularity in the early 1980s, today bringing in millions of tourists per year. The warm weather, close proximity and first-world amenities make it a perfect destination for the many American, Canadians and mainland Mexicans visiting Baja annually.

Cabo offers tourists a number of things to do in the water, the sand, and even the mountains of the desert. The charter game in Cabo is especially strong, with a variety of boats offering a number of excursions for everything from fishing to whale watching to sunset cruises and everything in between. And while there is more than one sailing catamaran in Cabo who offers some fantastic excursions, none of them can offer what Island Cat can.

Located in La Paz, the sailing catamaran Island Cat is a luxurious vessel, spacious enough to easily accommodate up to 35 guests without crowding. Being located in La Paz offers guests of Island Cat more than one advantage over chartering a catamaran in Cabo. As the 2nd most biologically diverse ocean in the world, the Sea of Cortez, often called the Gulf of California, is a virtual jackpot of abundant marine life. In fact, famed oceanographer Jacques Cousteau once famously referred to the Sea of Cortez as “the world’s aquarium”.

Island Cat offers their guests an “excursience”, excursions that are experiences, keeping their groups small to offer private attention and stellar customer service. The 18 passenger charter van picks up guests in Cabo San Lucas at their front door, greeting them with cold bottled water and a comfortable temperature controlled space for the two hour trip to La Paz.

Breakfast and drinks, including what’s been called“the best bloody mary in all of Baja”, await guests as they get under way, after an introduction to the Captain and Crew and a quick briefing of the safety measures aboard Island Cat.

Day trips to one of the many bays of clear turquoise waters set amongst white sand crescent beaches are a favorite of Island Cat guests. Once the vessel has anchored, the crew prepares paddleboards, kayaks and snorkeling gear for a day of fun in the water and around the active reefs at the cliff bottoms. For those guests interested, a quick ride aboard the dive boat Island Kitty takes them to a nearby sea lion colony where they are guided by an experienced crew member.

Swimming with the largest fish in the ocean is another adventure that is not available in Cabo San Lucas. The whale shark, known to grow upward of 41 feet and weigh more than 21 tons, migrates to the Sea of Cortez every October to feed on the plankton rich waters. The gentle giants are one of only two species of sharks that are filter feeders like baleen whales, and this fact, along with their sheer size, earned them their name. Swimming alongside a whale shark is an unforgettable experience, and when paired with inclusive two meals, an open bar and all day pampering, it is one guests don’t soon forget.
