One-of-a-kind vistas and rare experiences

The landscapes of Arizona continue to amaze visitors from all over the world. Arizona travel experiences tend to be unforgettable and unique. The more someone gets to spend exploring, the more they get to bond with the natural beauty and the rich cultural heritage. Traveling to these places can offer an opportunity to connect with the indigenous locals and have an experience that’s specific only to Arizona.

Here are a few of the most epic vistas and the best places to enjoy an abundantly starry night.

Sedona

The monumental red rocks of Sedona attract crowds during the daytime. But when the night falls, Seldona transforms into a one-of-a-kind stargazing spot. In Seldona, nights tend to be clear almost always, making it a perfect place for awe-inspiring experiences. Seldona makes an amazing dark sky community where stargazing tours are available. Sometimes, expert astronomers lead the tours, providing professional guidance and insight.

Monument Valley

Monument Valley, located on the Arizona-Utah border can easily be considered one of the most iconic places of the American West. It is known for its stunning sandstone formations carved by wind and water over very long periods of time. It has served as a filming location for many classic motion picture creations. No wonder because the vistas of Monument Valley are otherworldly and leave a deep mark on the soul. Visitors are invited to marvel at the views by driving around on the scenic loop road. The park is stunning in daylight, and the Milky Way is jaw-droppingly beautiful at night.

The breathtaking sight belongs to Monument Valley Navajo Tribal Park. For exploring Monument Valley from up close, a guide is required, and you need to have permission to stay overnight. Still, it's worth it for an experience that’ll last for a lifetime.

The Grand Canyon

There’s no visiting Arizona without going to the Grand Canyon, at least the first time. As one of America's most iconic natural wonders, the Grand Canyon boasts vast and awe-inspiring views of colorful rock formations. Stretched over 277 miles and over one mile in depth, the Grand Canyon is truly grand. It has been carved by the Colorado River for millions of years, and its geological history attracts thousands of visitors every year. Hiking along the rim offers an immersive daytime experience. And when the night falls, astroturists start to flow into the canyon, especially in June, when the Grand Canyon Star Party takes place every year. Thanks to this event, but definitely not only, the Grad Canyon National Park is among the most popular stargazing spots in the United States of America.

Saguaro National Park

Separated into two districts by the city of Tucson, Saguaro National Park is famous for the unique, tall-growing cacti species that are specific only to this region. These plants are specific to the Sonoran desert and grow up to 50 feet tall. The flora of the desert is defined by this species, which can reach incredibly long lifespans of up to 200 years. Saguaro National Park has the richest flora among all the deserts in the US. It also features mountainous regions with coniferous forests and interesting ecosystems offering a touch of greenery.

Saguaro National Pake also has star parties. With light pollution being almost nonexistent, sky views are amazing from here. Make sure to have the permit or pass required for visiting this natural wonder.

Wupatki National Monument

In Arizona, the main attractions are the natural wonders. But if you want to see man-build wonders as well, Wupatki National Monument is an excellent place to go. If you’re the least bit into ruins, this place will absolutely hit the right tone in your soul. The place used to be inhabited in the 1100s, with this 100-room pueblo being built. By the year 1182, about 85 to 100 people had inhabited the place. Today, the ruins serve as a reminder of the community that once was. The Hopi believe that the place is guarded by the spirits of those who have lived and died here. But the Hopi are not the only ones keeping stories about Wupatki. The Zuni, Navajo, and other tribes periodically return to the sight to keep traditions and connect with the monument.

History buffs can definitely enjoy visiting this place, but those interested in the starry night will also have a great experience. Viewing the night sky above the monument offers an otherworldly sight that’s hard to forget.

Antelope Canyon

The Navajo Upper Antelope Canyon is a slot canyon east of Lechee, Arizona. The canyon consists of six sections of the Navajo Reservation, with the Lower Antelope Canyon or the Corkscrew being one of the main attractions. The iconic corridors can be visited with a guide, and it is also possible to take a night tour of the canyon as well. It offers a beautiful hiking adventure, especially under the starry skies.
