Plans Unveiled for Former Camp Strake Property
Grand Central Park is going to be the newest master planned community coming to The Woodlands area with construction expected to begin early 2016 and openings as soon as late 2016. Five miles north of The Woodlands rested a 2,046-acre wooded property formerly owned by the Boy Scouts of America known as Camp Strake. The sale was completed to the Johnson Development group in late 2013 for an undisclosed price. The plans for the new community, named Grand Central Park in Conroe we revealed in a video recently published by the Houston Business Journal.
Grand Central Park will feature a Business Center located south of Loop 336 and west of I-45. 336 Marketplace will be located at the intersection of 336 and I-45 and will feature big-box retailers. Phase 1 will be built out west of 336 Marketplace in “West Village.” Grand Central Park will also feature a centrally located “Town Center,” complete with a Main Street Promenade and Urban Living styled housing to the west. Grand Lake and Deer Lake will border the community to the west, and no plans are currently showing build-out west of Grand Lake.
“Luxury patio homes, townhomes, and single-family homes will make up the first six sections of the more than 500 home sites planned for Grand Central Park.” Grand Central Park appears to offer a similar vibe to The Woodlands with interlaced trails, numerous parks, and a waterfront hotel and conference facility all included in the plans.
Sam Houston State University also plans to build an osteopathic medical school between the Business and Town Center, marking the first medical school to call Montgomery County “home.”
