Smart Home Technology Trends for 2015

It’s no surprise that homes are becoming more technologically integrated with every passing year. The focus of all these home-front innovations is of course to make life more simple. There are many new technologies and trends competing for your attention; from robots that sweep your floors to whole home automation systems, today’s homes are becoming an easier and more fun place to live. With that in mind, let’s jump right into some of the hottest trends in smart homes in 2015.

NuBryte – Smart Home Lighting and Safety Console

The NuBryte Smart Home system controls your home’s lighting, security, energy consumption, and provides weather reports and keeps all the family events on the system’s calendar. Many security system providers charge a monthly subscription fee for their services, but not with NuBryte. “The system uses your home’s lighting and a built-in sound alarm to scare away intruders. If the alarm goes off, a live video feed is sent directly to your smart phone so you can determine what the next course of action should be.”

Do you have trouble waking up in the morning? The system will automatically turn on your bedroom lights to keep you from hitting the snooze button. NuBryte also tracks energy consumption, and in the near future will also be able to track energy consumption from your connected appliances. A NuBryte system can be yours in the near future if you order from their website. Each system costs $200.

Keen SmartVent

The genius is in the simplicity. Keen SmartVents are “designed to increase comfort and reduce energy costs by regulating your home’s temperature room-by-room.” The SmartVents simply replace the existing air vents and syncs them to your home’s wireless network. From here, they regulate airflow into rooms that are too hot, too cold, or simply dormant for the majority of the day. Automatic airfoil louvers open and close accordingly to create zones in every room. The vents operate with four AA batteries and according to their website, provide years of operation. Each vent costs $80, and according to Keen they only recommend replacing a third or less of your home’s vents to avoid unnecessary pressure on your HVAC. As a failsafe, there are pressure gauges which will help relieve pressure if such a scenario existed.

Nest Thermostat

Nest Thermostats are not branch new, but they are finally gaining considerable traction with homeowners. Using the Nest Thermostat is easy, just turn the dial up or down in temperature and it will begin to learn your preferences. With mobile phone synchronization, you can control your thermostat from the office or anywhere else. The temperature gauge will adjust when you’ve left the house for the day, and readjust itself when you get back home. Folks are quickly realizing the benefits of Nest Thermostat systems with lowered utility bills by up to 20%. A $250 investment in a Nest Thermostat will quickly pay for itself in energy savings.

Nest Protect  – Carbon Monoxide/Smoke Detector

Nest Protect is a carbon monoxide and smoke detector aimed at providing a 21st –century-take on home safety.  Mobile integration puts the power in your hand while you check for updates in real time from each of your home’s systems. If Nest Protect encounters a threat, you will be pushed a notification to your phone. If you’re at home, the system will speak to you and provide directions to avoid danger areas. The system will first start by providing a “Heads-up” that the system has detected some problem. If the problem continues or get’s worse, it will notify you of the danger and the location saying “There’s smoke in the living room,” helping to avoid difficult to identify beeping from other detectors. Finally, Nest Protect works in conjunction with the Nest Thermostat, shutting off your gas furnace if a carbon monoxide alarm goes off to limit the dangers in case of an emergency. ?Each Nest Protect unit costs $99.
