The Stayton at Museum Way recently welcomed Taiwanese-American pianist Steven Lin for a spectacular performance at the retirement community as a guest musician of the recently launched event series, The Stayton Cliburn Recital Series. The Van Cliburn Foundation advances classical music throughout the world with its international competitions, education programs and concert series. Lin, known for his engaging and imaginative artistry on the keyboard, was accepted into the Julliard Pre-College Division on a full scholarship at age 10. He received the John Giordano Jury Chairman Discretionary Award at the 2013 Van Cliburn International Piano Competition, which is widely recognized as “one of the world’s highest-visibility classical music contests.” Lin has made worldwide appearances at significant venues including the Louvre in France, Sendai Cultural Center in Japan and at 13 made his debut in the United States with the New York Philharmonic in Avery Fisher Hall. Now he can add The Stayton in Fort Worth to that list; the senior residents and special guests were in awe of his level of skill and artistry as he performed Frédéric Chopin’s Two Impromptus, W. A. Mozart’s Sonata in F Major, K. 334 (Allegro, Adagio, Allegro assai) and Maurice Ravel’s La Valse.
“Lin’s tremendous talent on the piano was undeniable,” said Scott Polzin, executive director at The Stayton. “I think everyone here at The Stayton was blown away by his extraordinary performance and thoroughly enjoyed learning about his background.”
Lin was awarded the Silver Medal and several auxiliary prizes in May 2014 at Israel’s Arthur Rubinstein Piano Competition. He earned both his bachelor’s and master’s degrees at The Juilliard School and is currently pursuing a Performance Diploma from the Curtis Institute of Music. Other recent recital debuts include Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall, Pepperdine University Center for the Arts and the National Chopin Foundation, as well as The Kennedy Center.
“It was a pleasure to host this remarkable young artist and experience the inspiration of classical music with a live performance at our community,” said Polzin. “We are thrilled to be able to work with The Cliburn and provide these kinds of events for our residents and guests.”
After Lin’s recital, he mingled with those in attendance as The Stayton provided a Spring Tea with brightly colored fruits and heavy hors d’oeuvres to go with a variety of flavored tea.
