Previously, we talked about the golf courses around The Woodlands. As I specified before, that is mainly due to the private nature of the courses inside The Woodlands. This post is for anyone considering membership at any one of the clubs in the area. There are three main clubs in The Woodlands. The Woodlands Country Club, Carlton Woods, and Cannongate. Let’s dive right in with The Woodlands Country Club…
The Woodlands Country Club
The Woodlands Country Club was recently voted the Best Golf Course by Woodlands Online, a local online community dedicated to The Woodlands businesses and residents.
The Woodlands Country Club offers a few options to whet your golf appetite. Take your pick between the 27-hole Arnold Palmer Course, the 18-hole Tournament Course, or the 18-hole Player Course. Warm up on over 15,000 square feet of putting and chipping space, or take a few lessons from one of the PGA Pros to make quick work of any problems with the technique.
The Woodlands Country Club is more than a great golf outing. Access to The Woodlands Tennis Facility is included with every membership, and is comprised of 21 courts total; 4 indoors, 17 outdoor, a pro shop, men and women’s locker rooms and viewing areas for the courts. If you need some pool time, all members have access to the family pool located at the Palmer Course. A bounce house, foosball table, pool toys and a well-stocked snack bar are available for the kiddos. Take your game to the next level after a few workouts in one of two fitness facilities, which include machines, free weights, and even various fitness classes. After a long day in the sun, unwind at the Palmer Grill or at the full dining facility at the Tournament Course.

Carlton Woods
Carlton Woods offers two signature courses, the Jack Nicklaus Signature course and the Tom Fazio Championship Course. The Jack Nicklaus Signature course was personally designed by Jack Nicklaus himself, and opened in 2001 to high acclaim. The Tom Fazio Championship Course was designed by Tom Fazio, named by Golf Digest as one of the five best golf course architects in history. Unveiled in 2005, the course has received accolades such as the “Best New Private Course in Texas” and #3 Best New Private Course in the US.” Today, both courses continue to be ranked within the top ten courses in the state of Texas, and the top 175 in the country.
Premier golf is not the only asset Carlton Woods nurtures. Similar to The Woodlands Country Club, Carlton Woods offers six championship tennis courts, resort style swimming pool, newly renovated tennis and fitness center complete with free weights, machines, and a Pilates studio. Need some time away from the activities? The Spa at The Club Carlton Woods can help knead out the stress of everyday life. Finally, the dining options are plentiful with a bounty of options at the Nicklaus and Fazio Clubhouse. Relax at The Bear’s Den, the adult-only bar and grill, The Men’s Grille, located within the Men’s locker room, or the Nicklaus Grille for a full family dining event. At the Fazio Clubhouse, the Fazio Grill is a casual bar and lounge area perfect for anything from a light meal to a business meeting.

Canongate Texas
Canongate is comprised of five total courses, two of which are located in The Woodlands. Originally designed in 1975 by Joe Lee and Robert von Hagge, The Oaks was redesigned in 1999 by Jay Morrish & Associates. The Oaks course offers 7,044 yards from the back tees with a par of 72. As it’s name suggests, oak trees are heavily populated along the course. The Pather Trail Course has been labeled both “demanding and scenic,” and the 18th hole has received praise for being the “Best Par 4 in Houston.” Similar to The Oaks, Panther Trail was completely renovated in 2002 by Roy Case and features over twenty acres of Texas wildflowers lining the course. Beyond The Oaks and Panther Trail, Canongate is comprised of Lake Windcrest, Magnolia Creek, and South Shore Harbour courses. Your membership includes access to all five courses, however you have priority access to weekend tee times to your designated “home club.”
The Canongate membership now includes access to the swimming, fitness, and spa services through the partnership with The Woodlands Resort and Conference Center. Here you’ll find a fitness center complete with cardio machines, free weights, and strength conditioning equipment. The day spa offers separate facilities for men and women, including a sauna, steam room, hot tubs, and body treatments such as massages and facials. Further, if you’re looking to take your skills to the next level, sign up for some lessons from the pros. If you need some new gear, head over to one of the many pro shops available to look the part once you step out onto the course.

Carlton Woods is the only club that displays their membership dues on their site, you can find them here (Click here, I know you’re curious). As for the others, you will need to inquire directly for more information. Although I have not had the luxury of playing these courses, I would love to have the opportunity to. Any golfer who appreciates a well-manicured course will be salivating at the chance to step out there and play a round. For now, I’ll stick to the public courses, but that shouldn’t stop you from dipping your toes in the water and getting used to all that is available at each of these three spectacular clubs.
