#365 – Concert Season at the Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion

The Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion is an outdoor amphitheater that provides the Greater Houston area with award winning, world-class performing arts and entertainment acts throughout the year. It is owned and operated by The Center for the Performing Arts at The Woodlands, a nonprofit 501 (c)(3) organization, and governed by a volunteer board of directors.

It is now mid-April and concert season is underway. A few shows already wrapped up including MercyMe, Nickelback, and Bryan Adams, but there’s so much more to come. This Saturday, April 18th, Buzzfest XXXIII starts up at 12:00pm. It’s also something to keep in mind if you’re heading down to Market Street or the Woodlands Mall area with regards to traffic delays and detours.

This year’s lineup includes fan favorites like Dave Matthews Band, Jimmy Buffett, ZZ Top, Train, Lana Del Rey, Elton John, and a surprising combination of Tony Bennett and Lady Gaga. Quite a line-up right? There’s more! The aforementioned acts are just a few that take place up until May 30th, with many more throughout the summer. The Houston Symphony and Houston Grand Opera also make appearances throughout the year.

We’re learning more and more about Bluejack National golf course and the surrounding 386 luxury home community since it was first announced last April. Bluejack National is the first championship-level course Tiger Woods has designed in the United States, and according to initial reports, is expected to open late 2015.

According to the Houston Business Journal Article, “the 755-acre development, located at 4430 S. FM 1486 in Montgomery County, will offer its golf club members a mix of condominium suites, cottages and patio homes ranging in size from 800 to 3,300 square feet and in cost from the mid $300,000s to nearly $1.5 million.”

The homes will be well equipped, featuring some smart home amenities including a Crestron home automation system to control the lights, speakers, and security system. Interested in ordering food from the clubhouse? With the Crestron touchpad, ordering food is just a few swipes away.

Smart lock doors, automatic shading systems and smartphone application will all contribute to creating a high-tech, highly livable primary residence or home away from home. The luxury homes will feature Dacor appliances with dual gas and electric ranges with built in tablet for finding recipes in a snap.

As for the golf course, Bluejack National will be built on the former home of Blaketree National Golf Club. The 18-hole course will address speed of play by adding pine straw to the forest floor to encourage balls to be found faster and easier. Also, players will be able to tee off between a three-hole, five-hole, and nine-route route to adjust to the golfers time constraints if they cannot fit in a whole round of 18.

Amenities include a 10,000 square foot clubhouse, with restaurant, bar, indoor and outdoor dining and meeting spaces. A golf performance center with the latest golf swing analyzing technology and grills and taverns along the course to stop and grab some Bluejack ale and some grub. Want to practice your game after the sun has gone down? A shorter nine-hole course will be lit up at night allowing players to work on their game.

It’s not just for adults either. Kids will be happy to know about the 3-acre amenity park featuring a pool, skate park, wiffle ball diamond, flag football field, zip lines, tree houses among other cool and fun things to do.

Thinking this might be a place for you? All the amenities of resort-style community will come at a cost of $75,000 to $125,000 for the initiation fee alone. Then add on the cost of homes ranging anywhere from the mid $300,000s to $1.5 million and you have a more complete picture of price.

Are You Really The Sum of Your Social Media Profiles?

Sometimes what we see out there can impact how we see ourselves.

mobile-phone-426559_1280

I recently ran across a post on Realtor.com called “The Real You Isn’t on Facebook.” Normally I read something, then go on with my day and pay no more attention to it other than recognizing it as an interesting bit of information. This one however, seemed to stick with me for a couple days. It resonated with me, and I wanted to share it with you all.

The idea that everyone makes their lives look better than they really are on social media is not only real; it’s rampant. We tend to place ourselves in the best light possible in any situation. It’s human nature. We veer towards pleasure, and steer ourselves away from pain and embarrassment. Is there something wrong with posting good things on Facebook? Absolutely not. In fact it’s encouraged! After all, life is a celebration and should be treated as one.

See, Facebook is a revolutionary tool that ties people together from all over. It’s also a potentially risky place to get caught up in the “keeping up with the Jones’” mentality. People you know and love, and people you just met, all stand shoulder-to-shoulder in your news feed dripping details about their lives, the success they’ve experienced, and the material possessions they’ve acquired.

Let’s be honest though, who really are these people? It may be easy to piece together for the people you know very well, but what about those you don’t know so well?

Let me ask it another way. If you were to look at your own social media feed, would somebody you’ve never met before be able to tell what kind of person you are? How accurate would they be based on the content you put out?

There is no right or wrong answer; it is simply an exercise in becoming aware. The reality is that most people would feel happiness for all the good things coming into the lives of those they love, but there’s also those who will feel a bit inadequate from time to time for not having what others have. Especially if the posts you see are of people you met years ago and have lost touch with, but still show up on your news feed periodically.

Simply realize that there’s more to a person’s life than what they announce on social media. Try not to internalize other people’s successes in life as your failures. You have skills, talents, and abilities others do not, and the simple understanding that you’re enough, just as you are, is enough to combat any mixed feelings when you have a moment of weakness and self doubt.

I highly recommend taking the five minutes to read the post “The Real You Isn’t on Facebook,” it’s a great read. Tell me what you think!
