Top Rated Italian Restaurants of The Woodlands

Our quest to find the best Italian food in The Woodlands led us to these top five Woodlands area restaurants. I wanted to create a distinction between strictly pizza joints and Italian restaurants serving up pasta and the like. This list focuses on an experience geared towards the latter, a full, hearty Italian meal. This list is a compilation of results generated by everyday folks through Yelp. Here’s where they stand in the eyes of the local community.

Carrabba’s Italian Grille– 4.13/5 Stars (22 Reviews) $$
Carrabba’s Website | Directions | Link to Yelp Profile

We’re two Sicilian boys from Texas who love to cook and eat. We love the Sicilian food our parents and grandparents cooked. We love the Creole and Southern food our family members picked up passing through Louisiana and stepping off the boat right on the dock in Galveston. And we love the Western food that’s just part of being in Texas.

“Love love love this place. Always great food. I got the smoke salmon my husband got the mahi and my mother got the chicken Bryan which all where cooked perfectly. We also got a pitcher of blackberry sangria which was to die for. Everytime I am in town I try my best to come here. Keep up the great work.” Caryn M. – Yelp Review

Pallotta’s Italian Grill– 3.96/5 Stars (99 Reviews) $$
Pallotta’s Website | Directions | Link to Yelp Profile

Pallotta’s is a family owned Italian Restaurant serving The Woodlands since 1994. From the moment you enter our restaurant you are enveloped in a comfortable warm ambiance and cheerful environment. We offer an extensive menu with traditional Italian dishes, a delicious tenderloin filet, several seafood dishes, a wide array of appetizers, and entrées that offer our own special accent on traditional Italian fare.

“I have lived in the area for over 10 years and have never tried Pallotta’s. Boy, I have been missing out on ten years worth of great Italian food!” – Jamie A. Yelp Review

We welcome you to experience the most authentic northern Italian cuisine in the Woodlands – no passport required.

“Via Emilia in The Woodlands has an intimate atmosphere with soft piano music.  The staff is very friendly and helpful.  Our waiter was knowledgeable about the wine list and on Wednesday nights all Italian wines are 50% off!  My eggplant parmesan was superb.  We are actually going back tomorrow for lunch with friends who can’t wait to try it.  Love it!!!“ – Sharon F. GenuWine Tasting Room & Live Music

Magnolia’s GenuWine tasting room was born from a simple idea by two friends over lunch – create a local wine tasting room featuring predominantly boutique style wines that are both unique and affordable. In fact, most wines offered are available at a price point under $25.

Another unique feature of GenuWine is their selection of live music from local artists every week to accompany your tasting sessions. To give you a little sneak peak, this week’s lineup looks like this:

Wednesday, August 19th – Damon
Thursday, August 20th – Corey Michael
Friday, August 21st – Sam Jenkins
Saturday, August 22nd – Chase Gassaway

GenuWine also features a Wine Club with two varying subscription rates. The Corker includes two classic wines per month, a 10% discount on all wine bottle purchases and access to $5 weekly wine tastings for members ($15 for non-members) all for $42.50 a month. The second option includes two premium wine bottles per month, 15% off wine bottle purchases and free weekly wine tasting for members (Again $15 tastings for non-members) all for $82.50 per month.

If all that isn’t enough to peak your curiosity, see what Yelp users are buzzing about! The GenuWine Tasting Room has been reviewed 30 times with an average of 4.4 out of 5 stars.

Mom & Pop Spotlight – Via Emilia Italian Restuarant

One of my favorite experiences is walking into a Mom & Pop restaurant, listening to their story and enjoying a meal so unique and delicious you know that is the only place you will be able to find it. Via Emilia exceeded expectations on all counts, and while I am no food pioneer by any stretch, I still have stuffed a lot of food into my gullet over the years and I feel the need to share my experience.

Although the locals of Sterling Ridge and Indian Springs area perhaps know Via Emilia best, it is time that folks from all corners of The Woodlands hear about this hidden gem.

While I highly encourage you to ask your server about the history of Via Emilia, I’ll spare the details for brevity. Via Emilia is a result of five decades, and three generations of the Orioli family’s passion for food and culture from their native Emilia-Romagna region of northern Italy. In fact, “Mama” still works at the location five to six days a week, providing direction and expertise to ensure that the quality and authenticity is preserved from the traditional recipes from their homeland.

While I unfortunately cannot comment on the entire menu, I can comment on the few menu items I tried. I do, however, have a feeling there are no wrong answers when placing your order. In the Spaghetti Classico, the meatballs were out of this world and bursting with flavor. Similarly, the Pollo alla Parmigiana was so very tender and flavorful it made me want to stick around so I could get hungry again and eat some more. They are perhaps best known for their braised meats and seafood, both of which I did not try this go-around, but I cannot wait to go back to experience these other menu items. Finally, and this may sound like a curveball, you have to finish up the meal with the Tres Leches for dessert. I have personally never experienced a more delicious and decadent Tres Leches than the one offered at Via Emilia.

All in all, I encourage everyone who enjoys Mom and Pop, family-owned Italian restaurants to check out Via Emilia if they have not already. This place really hits the spot and is a hidden gem in the back of The Woodlands. I know I can’t wait to go back.

Houston Millennials More Likely to Buy than National Average

According to an article in the Houston Business Journal, 75% of Millennials plan to purchase a home in the near future. This figure ranks 1% higher than the national average.

High student loan debt, a national recession, and a national movement toward city living are all said to contribute to the lowest homeownership rates among Millennials since the 80s.

It comes as no surprise that “Older, married Millennials with higher incomes and lower student loan debt are more likely to buy a home than younger, single Millennials with lower incomes and a lot of college debt.”

Houston is a great place for Millennials to purchase a home, and if the scenario arises for relocation, properties do not sit on the market long before finding tenants or new owners. If you are a Millennial who has bought a home and are curious what your options are if you were to relocate, feel free to email us at info@thekinkteam.com and we would be happy to help answer any questions you may have.

Is the Newest Trend to Master-Planned Communities Coming to Houston?

Imagine stepping into the crystal clear water from your white sandy beach with the sun shining down in the heat of the summer. You feel the breeze on your skin, see the palm trees swaying, and hear the gentle calm of the water with each passing step. You may think you’re on a remote island in the Caribbean, but you could very well be at a Crystal Lagoon, a man-made, self-cleaning lake that average from 3 to 10 acres but can span up to 90 acres in size. Featured in the Houston Business Journal, these new amenities could be slated for some communities in Houston as early as 2016.

lagoon1

The beauty of the technology is that the beach and resort qualities can be brought to nearly any locale. In fact, Texas is one of six states Crystal Lagoons has planned for expansion, and two developers in Houston have already expressed interest in the project.

Crystal Lagoon projects can be managed remotely, and offer outdoor entertainment space for activities such as kayaking, swimming, jet-skiing, paddle boarding, windsurfing and more. Amenities like this will certainly help add value to real estate and provides a unique outlet for rest and relaxation without the hassles of traveling to your favorite vacation spot.

What do you think? Would you like to see something like this come to Houston? Let us know in the comments! To view the full article as featured in the Houston Business Journal, Click Here.
